Create a video promoting the Roseville Public Library, and you could win a GoPro!   Your challenge is to create a 30 – 90 second video highlighting the Roseville Library and what it means to you.

  • Submit the video on Youtube.com following the submission process
  • The challenge begins March 12 and ends April 8
  • Open to teens living in and around Roseville, ages 13 – 18

Sacramento News & Review Essay Scholarship!

Hey Titans! Check out this scholarship opportunity – many of you can use your personal statements as your essay!

Sacramento News & Review is accepting entries for our annual College Essay Contest, and we would like to invite graduating seniors to send us your essays for the chance to win a scholarship toward your college education. Seniors graduating in 2016 may submit one entry of a 650-word essay to collegeessay@newsreview.com with the subject line, “College Essay Contest.” The essay may be submitted as a Word document or PDF attachment.

Each year, ACSA (Association of California School Administrators) Region 2, Placer County Charter Chapter awards scholarships to further the education of our youth.  This year we have 3 different scholarships available, each for $1,000.

Category A  For current high school seniors planning to attend college/training with a preference given for those planning a career of education.  There are two (2) available in this category.

Category B  For a current high school senior planning to attend college/training who are children of current ACSA members.

Category C  For currently enrolled college attending students studying for a career in education.

Background & Purpose

The context of these scholarships is PFLAG’s mission to promote “the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBTQ) people, through support to cope with adversity in our society; education to enlighten the public; and advocacy to end discrimination and secure civil rights.”

The scholarship program is designed to (1) recognize outstanding LGBTQ and ally students whose personal qualities and actions are consistent with PFLAG’s mission and to (2) encourage and support LGBTQ and ally students in furthering their educational goals and careers.


  • Self-identified as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, other, or straight ally.
  • On track to graduate by June 2016 from a recognized secondary school in a Placer County District
  • Has applied, or intends applying, to enter higher education (college, university, or a trade/technical school) by fall 2016.

High School Student Application Requirements

  • Copy of current high school transcript or equivalent document.
  • Two letters of recommendation – (1) a high school teacher or staff member, and (2) an unrelated adult friend or member of the community.  Both letters should attest to the applicant’s character, academic potential, and specific positive involvement related to justice and equality for the LGBTQ community. Letters must include writer’s name, phone number, and relationship to the applicant.
  • Essay – 250 words (minimum) to 500 words (maximum), type written, double-spaced. To include, but not limited to, applicant’s vocational/career goals, interests and hobbies, extra-curricular activities, evidence of support for justice and equality for LGBTQ persons and community. Please also include either (1) how being an LGBTQ person has affected your life, or (2) how being an LGBTQ supporter and straight ally has affected your life.

Scholarship Awards

Two to four scholarships are available, starting at $250. Applicants will receive official notification by April 15, 2016. Awards will be presented at the PFLAG Chapter meeting in Auburn on Monday evening, May 9th and at school’s Senior Awards event. Proof of acceptance and enrollment in a college, university, or trade/technical school will be required prior to the disbursement of funds.

Kaiser Permanente Internship! Upcoming Deadline!

Kaiser Permanente in Roseville is seeking qualified high school students between the ages of 16 and 20 for our KP LAUNCH High School Program. This is a paid internship, in which students will receive $10.00 / hour. You should apply if you feel you would benefit from the program and if you qualify as disadvantaged or under represented, or have a demonstrated financial need to continue your education.

The Roseville Medical Center facility has space for 10 full time positions who will work from Monday, June 6, 2016 to Friday, August 5, 2016 and who will participate in a 4-hour weekly educational session as part of the employment experience.

**Please be aware that the Kaiser Permanente Youth Workforce Programs enforces a “No Dependents” policy, in which dependants of Kaiser Permanente employees are ineligible to apply to the Program. “Dependents,” in this case, is defined as the child/dependent of a guardian/parent that is employed by Kaiser Permanente and whereas the guardian/parent is providing direct financial support to the child.

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors in California who are in the state legally. Applicant must attend college full-time within 12 months of the award and provide proof of enrollment in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to financial credit.

Intertribal Timber Council | USDA Forest Service Southern and Pacific Northwest Research Stations – Various Scholarships!
Amount: Up to $4,000
Deadline: Jan. 22, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to Native American students who are planning or currently conducting tribally relevant research in a natural resource issue.

The Homer Fund
Amount: $2,500
Deadline: Jan. 25, 2016
Description: Scholars program is open to high school seniors and current college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Applicant must also be a dependent of an hourly associate of The Home Depot and its subsidiaries to be eligible for the program.

Words or Less Scholarship
Amount: $500
Deadline: Jan. 29, 2016
Description: Scholarship is open to students between the ages of 14 and 25 years of age who will be attending school in the Fall of 2016. Applicant must like the MyScholarships Facebook page and share in 10 words or less why they deserve the scholarship.

Description: Contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12 in the 2015-2016 school year. Applicant can submit an essay and/or video on the given topic related to agriculture.

Unigo I Have a Dream Scholarship

Description: Applicant must be 13 years of age or older, be a resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, and be currently enrolled (or enroll no later than the fall of 2022) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant must submit a short essay (250 words or less) about a dream.

National Debt Relief

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors, college, and graduate students. Applicant must be pursuing or intending to pursuing their bachelor’s degree which can be in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).

Description: Award is for students currently enrolled in ninth through twelfth grades in a participating region (see website for eligible areas) who have been actively involved in a volunteer activity that has had a significant, positive impact on race relations in their school or community.
